¡Ay, Caramba! I'm late for the
First I want to share my memory of Aprons.
My memory of aprons start with
my Abuelita Regina O. Gonzalez-Ayala.
She is like Martha Stewart. My grandma was a florist and would create arrangements for regional church conferences and films filmed in El Paso and I even met Jack Nicholson. She would make good Mexican food, to this day I don't like Mexican food restaurants because it's not like my grandmas. Everything is by scratch not canned beans, not canned enchilada sauce, and her mole sauce is heavenly (a Chile/chocolate cinnamon type of BBQ sauce). She could sew, she could can food, make crafts, she would iron her sheets and everything in between, she could knit and crochet, she would make everything by scratch like pie crusts, buñuelos, biscuits. I'm getting hungry. Actually, my grandma surpassed Martha Stewart. She is a real pioneer woman.
My memories with my grandma were most memorable in the kitchen with my Tia's. Everyone wearing an apron. We would talk about memories and girl talk, because we did not "gossip", today we call it networking, heehee.
This is my Abuelita holding my dad.

Here you'll see a couple of my aprons hanging in my kitchen.
The white one with the embroider is my first apron.
My grandma gave it to me when I was pregnant with my first child.
She said she made it when she was pregnant with my dad.
That would make my apron 64 years old, sorry dad.
The rest is history! That is when I started sewing and collecting aprons.

What memory do you have with aprons?
It can be a memory of something
you cooked, cleaned, or made crafts in.
Post your comment (one entry per name)
by Saturday 6pm Arizona Time.
What is Arizona Time? Here in AZ, we don't mess with our clocks for daylight savings time. It stays the same. I know California is the same time now.
El Paso, TX is an hour ahead.
So I think we are currently considered CST. Anyways,
I will have one of my princesses draw the winner's name this Saturday evening. Please include your email address. So I can mail the apron to you.
(It can be homemade, store bought, or a vintage find)
or just signing up for chances
to win a free apron from other participants.
Good Luck!
Ciao for now,
Arnnette

I LOVE the new background! It looks sooooo good. Wow you guys have been busy. It would have been so nice to join you guys on your adventures. Ok, I've got to get busy on my apron story. Family can enter right?
Of course! Family & Friends both here and blog world:) I will video us choosing the winner and posting it to make it fair. Good Luck everyone!
Yes, living in AZ does have it's perks...not having to change the clock once a year. I didn't even know daylight savings existed until I was 22! I know...
Thanks for sharing your apron story!
I used to wear a red gingham apron when I was about 10ish making ice box cookies with my step-grandma for x-mas. I still prefer homemade frosting...

I remember tying on my red gingham apron when I would bake a little cake in my turquoise Easy-Bake oven! Thanks for the giveaway.

My apron memory is one of a Christmas apron that my mother made me years ago. It was one of my favorite Christmas gifts and it currently holds a place of honor in my kitchen.
I remember the soft calico of my grandmother's functional 1940's aprons. Thanks for the giveaway!
Praying for cooler weather here in Arizona! I am sad to say that I don't really have any personal memories of aprons. I think my Mother might have worn one once or twice while we were growing up. Despite this, I have absolutely fallen in love with aprons and just started collecting and making them! Thanks for the chance to win!!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to win your surpise apron. I teach in an elementary special education class and wear an apron just about every day. The kids get excited to see which one I will be wearing. My collection is small and the opportunity to add to it would be wonderful.
Karen
Can't wait to see what your apron looks like. I love the one your grandma gave you.
Thanks for the chance to win.
My memory with aprons is putting one on in the morning, then comforting a sick child in the lap of it for most of the day. There's something motherly about aprons. They're special.
My first clothes sewing project was an apron in home-ec. My mom still has it!
my apron memory- I grew up in Brazil. My grandma has this huge kitchen and makes really good food. She always wears an apron. She would let me wear her apron if I ate all my food. I know love aprons and send her a new one every year for her birthday.
Thanks for the giveaway! I don't have any apron memories, but I love to look at the aprons my mom inherited from my great grandmother. I grew up in AZ and then went to college in a state with Daylight Saving Time...ick! Fall isn't so bad, but losing an hour in the spring is awful! AZ has a time zone name of its own, but the name isn't standardized. I've seen Arizona time, Mountain Standard Time (AZ), and all manner of time zone names. But not CST...that's where I am and we're 2 hours later than AZ. :)
I never really used aprons until after I got married and still only rarely because I only have one, not very attractive, apron. So hoping that I win a pretty one! ;)
That apron is very pretty! I love vintage aprons! I don't have many food memories of either of my grandmas. The lived a few hours from us and we rarely got the chance to visit. I do remember one of my grandmas' kitchen. They lived in the country in east TN in a more mountainous area. She always had the window open in her kitchen and the air just smelled different. It was a wonderful smell that I still remember. I remember her usually making pinto beans and cornbread when we came.
God bless,
Amanda

I remember my great granny's purple gingham apron. It is lost now, but just the thought of her and that apron makes me smile as all she had to do to make me feel loved is be there. She passed away 20 years ago, but I am sitting here and smiling as I type and remember her.
I love aprons - the one you wrote about and shared pics of is gorgeous! My apron memories stem from my grandmother - she always did (sometimes still does) a lot of canning and jelly making, so she's always had a bevy of aprons hanging by her back kitchen door. There's window right nearby, so I have many dond thoughts/day dreams that include sun shining through that window onto her aprons.
Have a wonderful day!

My favorite apron memory is a recent one! On the day I moved into my house I threw on an apron to move in--it was so nice! It had great pockets to hold the old keys and new keys and all sorts of other random things we kept finding on the floor, or picking up in the yard. It was so fun! And now I have a new house to display some of my favorite aprons in--which is even better!
When I lived in Honduras, all of the senoras had half aprons elaborately embroidered, white, sometimes with trim, and I remember that they were all spotless. Such an example those senoras!
An apron memory is making apple pies with my grandma. We would go out in aprons and collect the apples and then peel them and bake a wonderful apple pie. Boy that brings back such wonderful memories.
Thanks for the giveaway! I enjoyed reading about your abuelita. I just made my first apron, and I'm very proud of it! I'm looking forward to creating some memories in it.
thats easy, I'm in Arizona too. Love not having to mess with the time changes! How sweet your first apron is!!
my best memories with aprons is with my daughter. Her and i both love aprons and always cook with an apron on. I also love shopping for vintage aprons with her.
I remember when I was little I always wanted an apron to cook like my mom and grandma. So one day I snuck down to the craft box pulled out a piece of fabric, ribbon and some safety pins and my apron was complete. I actually made several of them and my mom still has them tucked in her apron drawer. My obsession started early.
what a sweet memory to share. I am an Arizona girl as well. My favorite memory of an apron was with my grandma Barbara. She had so many children and grandchildren that her home was always alive with activity. It was extra special when she would let us choose an apron from her box and bake with her. HEr food was simple, nourishing and so good.
I loved serving last years Thanksgiving pies in an apron! I worked on many pies of different kinds, and was so proud to bring those beauties out for everyone to see and eat! It was one of my prouder moments!
Thank you for the chance to win one of your aprons. And thank you for the story about your grandma. I miss mine so much. I wish my husband could of met her. I have memories the most at Christmas time. Making cookies and fudge. I now make everything with my 6 yr. old grandaughter. I think its neat to have different aprons because it can change you personality. Come check my blog contest out as well tomorrow. www.lilbitoldlilbitnew.com
My mom and I had matching aprons that I still have! Every Christmas,
we made cut-out butter cookies.
They melted like butter in your mouth! Neither mom or I were very good at making lovely decorated cookies; but to this day, none taste any better than hers did!
Many thanks, Cindi

Hola...my remembrance...Mi abulita always wore an apron. She would go into the vegetable garden, bend over at the waist (she always wore a dress too!)and gather her veggies. One problem I was always behind her and I would be looking at her "behind" and her big baggy granny "cho-nees" i.e. panties!
oops...that's "abuelita" y lo siento...

My goddaughters give me a apron every year for Christmas 'cause they know how much I love to cook. I have one for every holiday. My halloween one glows in the dark!

Utah time..hehe!! Sunday dinners are the time that my mom wears her apron!! Same with my grandma! Baking cookies and having ice cream and cookies late at night..well for a kid late is like 8 or 9 back in the day haha. I also wore an apron for a wedding once to serve food we all had matching aprons it was very cute!!
Love ya prima! ;) ~Cassie
You have my email already! ;)
Thank you for entering me in your giveaway. My first apron memory is when I had an Easy Bake Oven and made a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting :) For that occasion I wore a red smock apron with white piping on it. I think I was about 5 years old :)
Thanks again for your generous giveaway!
Sharon
my favorite apron memory is recent ... a "happy housewife" wedding shower that we threw for a friend of mine... all donned 1950s style dresses and cutesy aprons -- it was a blast!
My apron memory is the day before Easter putting on an apron my grandmother sewed for me and we would color the hard boiled eggs for the Easter Egg hunt.
Irma :)
Oh, good I'm so glad you extended the deadline!! Ok, there are three women in my life who are such good examples of delicious, homemade cooking. These women are my mom, my grandma, and my sister. They can make something out of anything and make it taste out of this world. Mmmm, yummy. Now, although I can't really say that I have any specific memories of aprons, all three of these women wore aprons whenever they cooked which says something in my opinion because I don't wear an apron and my cooking isn't very good. I guess you have to get down and dirty to make a good dish! So in an effort to improve my cooking skills, I'm entering this contest, oh yeah and the host of the giveaway is my sister! Good luck to everyone!!
